About Bryn Mawr, PA
Bryn Mawr is included among Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s, affluent suburbs known as the Main Line. This census-designated place lies partly in Montgomery County and partly in Delaware County and covers just over one-half square mile. Some 23 institutions in Bryn Mawr are over 100 years old and continue operational today under the guise of “Honoring the past and embracing our future.” Among these institutions are Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Lower Merion Baptist Church, John Fish Jewelers, the Shipley School, Bryn Mawr Trust, Bryn Mawr Post Office, and Bryn Mawr Train Station. Bryn Mawr’s history dates back to 1686 when a Quaker emigrated to Pennsylvania to escape religious persecution. The area’s original name was Humphreysville, but it was renamed in 1869 by a railroad agent who acquired the land that would eventually become Bryn Mawr.
